I am  Birth Bliss Academy trained and certified doula and a former member of Doula UK. BirthBliss Academy founder, Kicki Hansard, is an award winning doula and author of The Secrets of Birth. Kicki has taught and supported just short of 800 women on their doula journey and runs courses all over the UK and abroad. Kicki has trained with both Penny Simkin and Phyllis Klaus, two of the founders of DONA (Doulas Of North America) as well as a number of prominent leaders in their fields, such as Jack Newman, Ina May Gaskin and Michel Odent. I am thrilled to have been trained by Kicki Hansard, who continues to provide me ongoing support across the miles, as I continue to support parents of Wellington.

All of my doula packages include a free, no-obligation initial meeting, so you ask any questions you may have and see if I am the right doula for you.

"I think one of the best things we could do would be to help women/parents/families discover their own birth power, from within themselves. And to let them know it’s always been there, they just needed to tap into it."

Birth Doula Package

This is my most popular doula package.

The birth package comprises of three stages of support:

Antenatal care begins with Unlimited phone, text and email support, tailored to your needs, from the time of booking as well as a complementary meet and greet with your LMC.

The package includes two antenatal sessions with a strong focus on getting to know you and creating a solid relationship. These are totally tailored to your own needs in pregnancy and birth preparation. They take place in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits, with or without a partner, and last roughly 2 hours each.

Typical sessions will cover some or all of the following:

  • What you bring to birth (existing ideas and feelings)
  • Your hopes and wishes for your birth?
  • Any areas you feel you need more information about?
  • Anything that you feel is challenging when you think about your upcoming birth?
  • Anything you believe would be helpful for me to be aware of so that I can better support you?
  • How you want me to support you if you are veering from your original wishes? (i.e. asking for an epidural, do you want me to initially distract you? Remind you of your original wishes?)

Tailored Birth Support

As your doula, I provide on-call support 24 hours a day from week 38 of your pregnancy until you are in labour. Once baby is on the way, I provide continuous one-to-one care during your birth experience from the time you request for me to come, until you have birthed and fed your baby and are happy for me to go.

Birth support is completely focused on you and built around your preferences:

• Creating a calm birth room (shutting curtains, using dim lighting or candles, using aromatherpay, using music, helping with a pool)
• Being present and holding your space
• unrestricted access to my birth doula kit
• Touch (massage, rebozo, holding your hand, acupressure, hot and cold compresses)
• Movement and positions
• Verbal reassurance and visualisations
• Making and offering food and drink
• Helping with personal care (reminding you, and supporting you to use the toilet, brushing your hair back)
• Supporting your partner or whanau (suggesting things for them to try, ensuring they are ok, helping with siblings)
• Assistance with gathering information for you to make informed decisions about your care and the care of your baby
• Supporting your choices
• Respecting your privacy and advocating for others to do the same, if needed
• Visiting you pre, or post belly-birth, or going to theatre with you, if you choose
• Taking photos with your own camera/phone to capture your experience
• If transferring anywhere, meeting you at the birth venue of your choice/need and continuing the above.
• Assistance with your baby’s first feed, regardless of your feeding preference.
• Helping with tidying up (emptying and deflating pool, putting washing on, washing dishes) if you birthed at home.

I typically offer one postnatal session, lasting approximately 2 hours. This will take place a week after your baby’s birth and is tailored to your own needs as a new parent. The session will take place in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits, with or without a partner.

We might cover/include things like:
